Dries Wouters to stay in Mechelen for another year

FC Schalke 04 have agreed to extend Dries Wouters’ loan deal with KV Mechelen, meaning he will now stay in Belgium for the 2022/23 season, having originally moved there in January. All other details regarding the deal will remain undisclosed.

“We came to a joint decision together with Dries and his agent that his chances of playing time are greater in Mechelen than here at Schalke. We are confident that Belgium is the best place for him to continue his development, which is why we’ve decided to extend the loan deal by a further year,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “We would like to wish him all the best for this season in Belgium.”

Wouters moved to Schalke from KRC Genk in summer 2021 and signed a three-year deal. He has only featured twice in all competitions for the club, starting once, having suffered from two ligament injuries last season. The defender subsequently joined KV Mechelen on loan in January.
