Rodrigo Zalazar back in Gelsenkirchen, Marius Bülter returns to team training

Marius Bülter has returned to team training at the start of the second week of pre-season. The attacker only trained individually last week after recovering from food poisoning. He therefore missed the friendly against SC Spelle-Venhaus on Saturday (3-0).

Rodrigo Zalazar is back in Gelsenkirchen. The midfielder made his debut for Uruguay a few weeks ago and was therefore given more time off for his summer holiday. He completed performance tests on Monday (3/7) together with Cedric Brunner.

Justin Heekeren (rested) and Paul Seguin (rested after calf injury in the Spelle game) were not in team training. Kenan Karaman was also missing due to illness. Like Zalazar, he was given until 2nd July off after being named in Turkey’s squad for the Nations League. The 29-year-old will complete his performance tests at some point during this week.

Matriciani still on holiday, Cissé at U23 Africa Cup of Nations

Henning Matriciani is now on holiday after appearing in all three group games for Germany U21s at the European Championship. The defender is due to return to Gelsenkirchen in the coming days. Ibrahima Cissé is also not back auf Schalke yet. The centre-back is taking part in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations with Mali. They will play hosts Morocco in the semi-finals on Tuesday (4/7).
