First training session in Längenfeld – Schöpfi returns 'home'

The first training session during the training camp has been completed. FC Schalke 04 trained for just over 90 minutes on Friday evening (21/8) at SV Längenfeld’s pitch, which is close to the team hotel the Aqua Dome. The trip to Austria provides a return to Alessandro Schöpf’s former home, having spent five years at SV Längenfeld.

The Austrian international was clearly happy to be back at this former stomping ground. The club also hadn’t forgotten about Schöpfi. A big banner was hung above the pitch saying “SV Längenfeld welcomes Alessandro Schöpf.”

“I had a great time at that club, and it was a successful period too,” reflected Alessandro Schöpf. “We won the Tirol championship a few times – as a village team. That was a massive achievement.”

75 fans in the stands

Around 75 fans attended the first training session in Austria – all socially distanced and following the hygiene rules. The team split off into two groups, with one working on the pitch doing some coordination work and the other training with Werner Leuthard, the performance coach, on their fitness. The players swapped after half an hour. The session was completed with some passing drills.
