Jonjoe Kenny: A great first half of the year

Jonjoe Kenny started in every single game in the Hinrunde. The Englishman missed just seven minutes, as he was brought off late into the match on two occasions. “It was a great first half of the year for me personally and for the team”, the right back gives a positive review of his first six months with Schalke.

Kenny said that he now has to build upon these performances. He has the confidence in himself to play as much as possible in the Rückrunde. “I am working hard for that every day”, said the 22-year-old, who is on loan from Everton.

Over the winter break, he has been able to regain his strength for the coming challenges in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal. “It was really nice to be able to spend the holidays with my family and friends in England. It was a completely new experience for me. I have noticed that it does me good to be able to recharge the batteries”, Kenny explained. In the past, the Premier League schedule has meant football all throughout the festive period.

Kenny has enjoyed the first training sessions in the new year. “The atmosphere in the squad is really good. Everyone’s really focused and wants to improve every day”, were Kenny’s impressions. “The decision to come to Schalke was the right one”, he said. “It’s fun playing for this team. The head coach suits the club and the fans are simply amazing.”

Kenny still cannot say what will happen after 30th June. “First, I am concentrating on playing good football and helping the team”, he explained. The youngster doesn’t want to get involved in any speculation.
