Tobias Mohr: Taken another step forward

Tobias Mohr had missed several weeks of action with the Royal Blues due to a thigh injury before making his comeback during the 3-0 friendly win over FC Zürich on Thursday (09/01), receiving half an hour of game time. The left-footed player spoke about the training camp in Belek, his current situation within the team and his thoughts on the remainder of the season.

Tobias Mohr on …

… the training camp in Belek:

The training camp did us good. We worked very effectively there. Particularly important is that we have come away from it without any injuries. We’ve taken another step forward in terms of our tactical approach, stability and chemistry. We are now looking forward to that first game of the new year away to Eintracht Braunschweig next Saturday even more.

… his situation within the team:

Timing plays a key role in sport. I was able to use timing to my advantage in the summer, and even now I don’t feel like I’ve slipped down the rankings too far, which is something that the coach has made me confident of. However, in light of the team’s good performances of late, I’m not expecting to walk straight back into the starting XI, although that obviously remains my goal. Ultimately, the decision lies with the coach and all I can do is stake my claim, which I think I managed to do during the training camp. I feel really fit again following my injury, which is thanks to the work I did with our prevention and rehab coaches Marc Thum and Nico Wamig.

In light of the team’s good performances of late, I’m not expecting to walk straight back into the starting XI, although that obviously remains my goal.

Tobias Mohr

… the remainder of the season:

We need to focus on collecting as many points as possible as quickly as possible. It helps when you play with confidence, which we clearly demonstrated over the last few games heading into the winter break. We hope to carry forward that self-confidence while being mindful that we don’t become arrogant. If we maintain the right balance and remain humble then I think we could have a great second half of the season.
