Miron Muslic: Making progress day-by-day but have a long road ahead of us

Following the opening session of the training camp in Stubaital, Miron Muslic provided his thoughts on the current pre-season outlook, as well as plans for the coming week. The head coach also explained why Neustift is such a special location for him. schalke04.de has rounded up the key outtakes.

Miron Muslic on …

… the first three weeks of pre-season:
We have focused on a number of areas to date, not only with regard to the physical and athletic side of things, but also tactics. Of course, not everything is perfect just yet, but a lot is already going very well. We are making progress day-by-day but have a long road ahead of us. We will walk this path together, though. The squad will certainly change in one position or another. My job is to prepare the boys who are currently in the team in the best possible way. Our week at the training camp will be intense and the lads will be pushed to their limits.

… his coaching style:
Everything that we demand of the boys, we the coaching staff have to demonstrate ourselves. Therefore, it is important to me to bring energy and passion to the pitch.

… returning to a familiar region:
I spent part of my childhood in Neustift, so it’s very special for me that we are undertaking our training camp here right now. My sister and her husband and their children were among the spectators in the stands at the first training session. That made me very happy. My wife and children will also be arriving in the next few days.

Everything that we demand of the boys, we the coaching staff have to demonstrate ourselves. Therefore, it is important to me to bring energy and passion to the pitch.

… training camp friendly matches:
We have arranged three friendlies during our time in Stubaital (vs. Panathinaikos, SV Wehen Wiesbaden and FC St. Gallen). The results are less important than the insights we gain. In the first friendly, many of the lads will get to play 45 minutes once again, and on the day with two games, that will rise to 90 minutes of playing time spread over the two matches.

… the size of the training camp squad:
We are still getting to know each other and therefore we decided to travel to the training camp with a large squad. I want to get a glimpse of every player, but as we approach the start of competitive action, that group will get ever smaller. Every squad member has the chance to show what they can do.

… Kenan Karaman:
Despite Kenan being injured and unable to train with the team, it was important to me that he travelled with us to the training camp. He is club captain and it was therefore important that he is part of the squad. Kenan will continue to work on his recovery while in Stubaital. His healing process is going as hoped.
