Royal Blues arrive in Mittersill with 27 players

FC Schalke 04 safely arrived at their training camp in Mittersill on Tuesday (29/6). 27 players made the journey from Düsseldorf airport down to Austria for the 12-day training camp in the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern. This is the fifth time that S04 will spend time in the summer at this location.

One of the players that travelled to Mittersill is Yaroslav Mikhailov. The Russia youth international is currently on trial from Zenit St. Petersburg and scored twice in the 14-0 friendly win over Sportfreunde Hamborn 07 last Sunday (27/6). He will remain with the club throughout the whole training camp and provide another option in training and friendlies for the coaching team.

Kutucu and Matondo not involved

Ahmed Kutucu (thigh problems) and Rabbi Matondo (minor knee injury) have not made the trip to Austria. After consulting team doctor Dr. Patrick Ingelfinger, they will remain in Gelsenkirchen to complete individual programmes at the medicos.AufSchalke. They could still join up with the squad at a later date in Mittersill.

Ozan Kabak and Matthew Hoppe are not with the rest of the team either. Kabak was part of Turkey’s squad for EURO 2020 and is still on holiday, while Hoppe is with the USMNT preparing for the Gold Cup. US national coach Gregg Berhalter has to name his squad for that tournament by 30th June.

Two friendlies during the training camp

Dimitrios Grammozis’ side will play two friendlies during these 12 days in Austria. S04 will first take on Zenit St. Petersburg in Kufstein on Saturday (3/7, 16:00 CEST), before facing Shakhtar Donetsk six days later in Mittersill (18:00 CEST).
