Kenan Karaman: Karel Geraerts managed to get in our heads
With his 76th minute goal, Kenan Karaman made the Schalke fans inside the VELTINS-Arena roar on Saturday (28.10). Despite going 3-1 up, the game was still not over; Hannover got another goal back just before the final whistle through a penalty from Marcel Halstenberg, but the Royal Blues managed to see out the victory.
“After conceding, we upped the intensity again and showed that we weren’t going to let these three points be snatched away from us,” explained the Turkey international. “For that reason, I want to praise each and every one of my teammates. It was a good team performance and by no means an easy game; there was a lot of pressure on us,” said the attacker, who was suspended for the recent away defeat in Karlsruhe, having received a second yellow card against Hertha BSC.
A positive message and a clear analysis
Karaman stated that the 3-0 loss in Karlsruhe was discussed in training at the start of the week. “Karel Geraerts managed to get in our heads. There were lots of emotions on display, but also a positive message and a clear analysis,” said the 29-year-old.
The coach is really driven and gives us a lot of pointers.
That meant the attacker was delighted that the team was able to repay the head coach’s trust. “The coach is really driven and gives us a lot of pointers. That’s why I’m sure that we’ll carry on improving,” said Karaman. The right-footer wants to play a big part in that: “It’s my aim to lead the team with good performances. That’s the standard I set myself.”
A positive message and a clear analysis
Karaman’s important goal against his former club from Lower Saxony was not the only reason why he came away from the clash a happy man, but it was certainly a significant reason. “First, I looked to see if passing was the best option, but then I saw that I could get the ball into the far corner of the goal – and that’s exactly what I did! I was on cloud nine after that,” described the attacker, adding that his goal came as a big weight off his shoulders.
However, Karaman knows that his side still find themselves in a tense situation. “That’s why we’ve got to feed off these positive vibes now.” To kick on from Saturday’s victory, it’s crucial that the team gives everything in the upcoming fixtures, Karaman added. “We wanted to give something back to the fans against Hannover and show our passion,” he said. “Together with our fans, we’ll get through this situation.”
