Back to work with performance tests and new faces

47 days after Schalke lifted the 2. Bundesliga trophy at the VELTINS-Arena, preparations for the upcoming season in the top flight are under way. The first-team squad will undergo individual performance and medical tests on Friday (3/7) and Saturday (4/7), presented by Knappschaft Kliniken.

Among those involved are new signings Junior Adamu, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Scottish champions Celtic from SC Freiburg, and Satoshi Tanaka, who played for Fortuna Düsseldorf during the previous campaign. The initial checks for the pair and their future teammates were split into two parts, with orthopaedic and internal testing. Team doctor Dr Patrick Ingelfinger was among those assessing whether all the players will be fit and ready to take on the demands of the first training session on the pitch. The results will also give Miron Muslic and his coaching staff important information for managing the players’ workloads over the days and weeks ahead.

World Cup stars Nikola Katic and Dejan Ljubičić will miss the tests this week, as will Mika Wallentowitz, who is currently representing Germany U19s at the European Championship in Wales.

Open training session on Sunday at 14:30 CEST

The first football-specific training session will take place at 14:30 CEST on Sunday (5/7) on pitches 2 and 3. Fans are invited to come along and watch the session.
