Simon Terodde: Proud of how we supported each other

FC Schalke 04’s 5-2 home win against Hertha BSC on Friday night (14/4) at the VELTINS-Arena was the perfect response to the poor performance in Sinsheim a week ago. Stevan Jovetic looked to have got the visitors right back in the game on the stroke of half time, but Simon Terodde settled the home fans’ nerves at the start of the second half with S04’s third goal of the evening.

The experienced striker was on hand from close range to find the back of the net after some great work out wide by Kenan Karaman. “We knew Hertha would be pushing for the equaliser after they made it 2-1. Our third goal came at the perfect time,” said Terodde after his fourth goal of the season. “You always want to score as a striker, so it was a good evening.”

Important win against a direct rival

Schalke’s number 9 was recalled to the starting XI by head coach Thomas Reis after only being used from the bench in recent times. “I will try to pick up where I left off,” said last season’s top goalscorer, who always puts the team first, even if it means sitting on the bench – exactly the kind of attitude the club needs during a relegation battle. “I’m proud of how we supported each other. We’ve got some long weeks ahead of us and we need every single player,” stressed Terodde. “We knew we had to win this game, we can read the table.”

We were really aggressive and got the fans right behind us after the poor display in Hoffenheim. That was the key to victory.

Tim Skarke’s stunning strike in the third minute helped set Schalke on the way to victory. Terodde was really pleased with the team’s performance. “We were really aggressive and got the fans right behind us after the poor display in Hoffenheim. That was the key to victory.” The support of the 60,000 fans at home definitely played a part, according to the 35-year-old.

Kaminski goal rounds off a perfect evening

The home fans got to celebrate a fifth goal in injury time, when Marcin Kaminski scored a free-kick won by Terodde. “That was the icing on the cake,” said the striker, who played the full 90 minutes for the first time since the opening day of the season. “It rounded off a perfect evening.”
