Weston McKennie: We need to stick together

David Wagner, Uwe Rösler and Weston McKennie share their thoughts following Schalke's 2-1 defeat in Düsseldorf.

David Wagner:

We switched off for two set pieces and we conceded two goals and let our lead slip away. The game didn’t feel much different before or after those two situations. There was a very clear pattern: one team plays with possession, the other on the break. That was all we could do to do due to the current injury problems. We had to play a different game to what we originally intended and had done so well with early on in the season. Instead, we need to defend solidly, which we did well apart from two set pieces. I think from open play we had the best two chances through Daniel Caligiuri and Jonjoe Kenny.

Uwe Rösler:

We are very difficult to beat right now. We finally got the reward for our efforts this time and finally got all three points. We showed incredible character after going behind to turn the game around. I have said many times already that we don’t play like a team that is going to get relegated. The team’s attitude is faultless, and they are doing everything to stay in the league. We will fight until the end.

Weston McKennie:

It’s really frustrating to have lost again. Especially because both goals came from set pieces. We can’t let our heads drop now. On Saturday we go again against Bremen. We need to stick together and bring a positive feeling to the pitch.
