Schalke 04 to say farewell to seven players ahead of final game of the season

FC Schalke will be saying goodbye to a number of players ahead of their final home game of the 2024/25 season against SV Elversberg on Sunday (18/5, 15:30 CEST). Mehmet Can Aydin, Marcin Kaminski, Tobias Mohr, Michael Langer, Ralf Fährmann, Dominick Drexler and Aymen Barkok, whose contracts are all set to expire at the end of June, will all receive an official farewell from CEO Matthias Tillmann and director of professional football Youri Mulder around 50 minutes prior to kick-off at the VELTINS-Arena.

Youri Mulder to remain as S04's director of professional football

FC Schalke 04 and Youri Mulder will continue their cooperation, with the 56-year-old taking up a permanent position as the club's director of professional football until June 2027. Mulder had previously been in the role on an interim basis since November 2024, having also been a co-opted member of the supervisory board.

Club statement following public comments made by Kees van Wonderen

The club management discussed the comments made by Kees van Wonderen on Saturday night in an internal meeting held on Easter Sunday (20/04). Frank Baumann, who will assume the role of board member for sport from 1st June, was also involved. As part of these discussions, there was of course direct communication with the head coach.

Frank Baumann appointed as FC Schalke 04’s new board member for sport

Experienced strategist Frank Baumann is the Royal Blues’ new board member for sport. The 49-year-old signed a long-term contract last weekend and will start his role on 1st June, taking on responsibility for the club’s men’s, women’s and academy teams. The supervisory board of FC Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 e.V. unanimously granted Baumann the mandate for the sporting department during an extraordinary meeting on Sunday (6/4) at the Hans-Sachs-Haus, the town hall of the city of Gelsenkirchen.

Win in Elversberg overshadowed by tragedy

FC Schalke 04 ended the year with a 4-1 win against league leaders SV Elversberg, having taken seven points from their last three games. However, the team's delight at their success was overshadowed by a tragic event in Magdeburg on Friday evening (20/12). A car was deliberately driven into a crowd of people at a Christmas market, resulting in several deaths and countless serious injuries. The news deeply affected the players, staff and fans.

Axel Hefer: New board member for sport needs to be a team player and an expert

FC Schalke 04 will reinstate the position of board member for sport come the start of the new year. The club’s supervisory board has decided that a new member with responsibility for sporting directives will be added to the existing board currently consisting of Matthias Tillmann and Christina Rühl-Hamers.

Ben Manga joins FC Schalke 04

The Royal Blues have bolstered their sporting management team with the addition of Ben Manga, who has become the new director of squad planning, scouting and the Knappenschmiede youth academy. Manga has signed a long-term contract at the club and will be responsible for Schalke’s senior and youth teams alongside sporting director Marc Wilmots with immediate effect. Both Manga and Wilmots will report directly to Schalke CEO, Matthias Tillmann.

Gerald Asamoah to leave Schalke 04 at the end of the season

Gerald Asamoah will leave FC Schalke 04 at the end of the current season. The first-team manager and the Royal Blues’ board came to an agreement. The position of “first-team manager” will no longer be required for the new season as a result of the necessary internal restructuring. Gerald Asamoah’s contract, which expires in June 2024, will not be extended for this reason. He will work towards a smooth transition within the first-team set-up together with the club until the end of the season.

The football world in mourning: Franz Beckenbauer has passed away aged 78

He was one of the all-time greats. Quite a few people say that he was the best German player of all time: Franz Beckenbauer was a legend – as a player, coach and ambassador for the sport. The “Kaiser” passed away aged 78 on Sunday (7.1.), with the football world losing a man who many people would like to remember for many years to come.

Marc Wilmots appointed new sporting director of FC Schalke 04

FC Schalke 04 have appointed Marc Wilmots as their new sporting director, as part of a restructuring of the club’s sporting management team. The 54-year-old Belgian put pen to paper on a long-term deal on Wednesday (3/1). André Hechelmann will take up the newly-created role of technical director.

Matthias Tillmann assumes role of CEO

FC Schalke 04 have kicked off the new year with a big change at the top level of the club, as Matthias Tillmann has taken up the position of Schalke’s new CEO. Tillmann and Christina Rühl-Hamers now form the governing body of the club.
