Kenan Karaman: It’s our responsibility

The Royal Blues suffered a 2-0 defeat away to 2. Bundesliga side Dynamo Dresden in the DFB-Pokal. Head coach Miron Muslic and his opposite number Thomas Stamm gave their assessments after the game, while Kenan Karaman and Loris Karius also shared their thoughts. schalke04.de has rounded up the post-match reaction.

Kenan Karaman on the pitch.

Miron Muslic:

Dynamo Dresden deserved to win the game – we have to accept that. We didn’t play to our full potential at any stage. Our biggest problem was that we were sloppy in possession and gave the ball away in areas where you simply can’t afford to. We’re disappointed with our performance, but we have to look ahead. We need to get through this difficult spell, and we will.

Thomas Stamm:

It was a very intense game. We were solid defensively throughout the 90 minutes and didn’t give much away. There were very few clear-cut chances, particularly in the first half. We were more clinical after the break than we’ve been in recent weeks, and that was exactly what we needed. The players who came off the bench gave us fresh energy. Alexander Rossipial set up Christoph Daferner’s decisive goal. This result gives us confidence that we can achieve success as a team.

Kenan Karaman:

We were far too passive in the first half and allowed Dresden to have the ball too often. They grew in confidence as the game went on. We struggled to find the right options in possession and were sloppy at times, which meant we couldn’t create enough chances. The coach keeps showing us ways to improve, but it’s our responsibility to put those ideas into practice on the pitch. We need to start posing more of an attacking threat as quickly as possible.

Loris Karius:

We didn’t show enough drive or energy today to turn the game around after going 1-0 down. We’re understandably disappointed, but we have to stick together and keep going. We’re a Bundesliga club. We’re Schalke 04. This isn’t the time to hide away or start feeling sorry for ourselves.
