Michael Gregoritsch: This win will spur us on

The Royal Blues defeated Hertha 3-2 in extra time in a dramatic DFB-Pokal tie on Tuesday night (4/2). schalke04.de has summarised the post-match quotes.

Michael Gregoritsch

David Wagner:

We deserved to win because the lads put so much into tonight’s game. It was a great game of football for anyone to watch. I can’t explain my red card. I’ve watched it back and my hand was on his neck, but I was trying to help him stay up. He then threw the crate of water. If Jordan Torunarigha was racially abused, I would like to apologise to the player and to his club on behalf of FC Schalke 04.

Jürgen Klinsmann:

We’re disappointed and annoyed, any team would be. We played so well for 70 minutes and we were great to watch. Really well done to the players for that.

Michael Gregoritsch:

We gave our all for 120 minutes and threw the kitchen sink at them. We’ll gain some energy from the joy of this win – it will spur us on. I had the feeling throughout the game that we could score. I believed in us because I know that we possess the quality to turn a game around. At half time we discussed how loud the ground would be if we got one back – and it was. It’s hard for an away team here when the atmosphere is like that. Ultimately we deserved to win.
