DFB-Pokal: S04’s clash with Aalen scheduled for 17th August

The German Football Association released the schedule for the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Thursday morning (13th June). Schalke’s first-round tie with Oberliga side VfR Aalen will take place on Saturday, 17th August at 15:30 CEST.

Schalke and Aalen have met in the first round of the cup before – in 2010, a brace from Jefferson Farfan handed the Royal Blues a 2-1 win at the Scholz Arena to kick off a cup run which eventually led to S04 winning a fifth DFB-Pokal title.

Just as they did 14 years ago, VfR Aalen are participating in the DFB-Pokal on the back of success in the Württemberg state cup, after beating SG Sonnenhof Großaspach in the final. Aalen’s 2023/24 league campaign, however, proved to be less successful, with a 15th place finish in the Regionalliga Südwest resulting in relegation to the fifth tier.

The draw for the first round of the 2024/25 DFB-Pokal will take place at 18:00 CEST this Saturday (1/6). Former Germany international Nils Petersen will conduct the draw with DFB vice-president Peter Frymuth at the German Football Museum.

S04 knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in extra time

It took 120 minutes to find a winner between FC Schalke 04 and FC St. Pauli on Tuesday night (31/10) in the DFB-Pokal. The hosts eventually booked their place in the next round thanks to Johannes Eggestein’s goal in extra time.
