Miron Muslic: We’ll be pushed to new limits – and that’s what we need
The highlight of this year’s Schalke Day awaits at 17:00 CEST on Saturday (8/8), when the Royal Blues take on Atalanta at the VELTINS-Arena. More than 50,000 fans will be in attendance for the friendly against one of Italy’s leading sides.
For Miron Muslic, the game is hugely important, as is the meeting with Real Madrid the following week. “We’re now facing two European heavyweights back to back. Atalanta and Real Madrid both played in the Champions League last season and they’re going to test us enormously,” said the head coach. “We’ll be pushed to our limits and find out where our new limits are. That’s exactly what we need.”

After five friendlies so far (W4, L1), the Royal Blues are entering the final stages of their pre-season preparations with the two games at the VELTINS-Arena. “Last season, the final friendly against Sevilla on Schalke Day showed us exactly what we still needed to work on before the opening game against Hertha BSC. That’s what these matches are about again this time. That’s why both friendlies are very, very important, because Atalanta and Real obviously have an incredible amount of quality,” stressed Muslic.
The head coach is also looking forward to the atmosphere back at the Royal Blues’ home. “We’re all really looking forward to seeing our fans again and being back at the Arena,” said Muslic.
