David Wagner: We’re particularly looking forward to seeing the fans

The Royal Blues have a special friendly match on Saturday (15th August, 18:30 CEST) in more ways than one. The game against SC Verl will be Schalke’s first game staged in the ‘new’ Parkstadion, which was designated the U23 and U19 sides’ official home ground at the end of July. Even better: the match against the newly promoted third-division side is the first time in more than five months that Schalke fans can support their team live at the ground.

After close cooperation with the local authorities, Schalke have been given permission to hold their pre-season friendlies at the Parkstadion in front of up to 300 supporters. Fans could apply for free tickets until 9.04am on Friday, and the match, like all in pre-season, will shown for free on Schalke’s official YouTube channel.

After months of empty stadiums, we can finally play in front of our own fans again at the Parkstadion on Saturday. We’re particularly looking forward to that.

David Wagner is particularly looking forward to having the support of the fans and is excited to face Verl. “After months of empty stadiums, we can finally play in front of our own fans again at the Parkstadion on Saturday. We’re particularly looking forward to that,” says the Royal Blues’ head coach.

Friendly over two 60-minute periods

The match against SC Verl will consist of two 60-minute periods and is the second friendly of pre-season; Schalke defeated VfL Osnabrück 5-1 in Ankum at the end of the intensive training camp in Herzlake. Schalke will also take on KFC Uerdingen (18/8), Viktoria Köln (2/9) and VfL Bochum (5/9) in pre-season. Further friendlies are planned for the training camp in Längenfeld (21-29/8).
