Karel Geraerts: Some nicely worked goals
After a successful training camp in Albufeira, coach Karel Geraerts was fairly pleased with his team’s final friendly before the return of competitive football. The Belgian was satisfied with the first-half performance in particular in the 3-1 win over KAS Eupen on Saturday (13/1). “We were well organised, scored two nicely worked goals and did well overall in possession,” said the head coach.
Geraerts stated that he saw a number of things the team had been working on training, including the moves that resulted in the first two goals. “It was good to see that,” he praised, whilst he was also happy with how few chances the opposition had in the first 45 minutes.
Nevertheless, it wasn’t all perfect. “We can’t be happy with how we played in the first 20 minutes of the second half. It wasn’t the kind of football that I want to see. We can’t afford to play like that in a league game, but the team knows that,” said the Belgian.
One more week of training to fine tune things
The head coach will use the coming week of training to fine tune a few things ahead of the game against Hamburger SV next Saturday (20/1, 20:30 CET). “We will work hard,” he promised. “We’re all looking forward to an evening game at a sold-out VELTINS-Arena.”
The 42-year-old knows the majority of his starting XI for that match against the Rothosen, but is yet to decide on the final side, with this week of training set to help him too. Another positive from the Eupen friendly was that nobody picked up an injury (only Paul Seguin was missing due to a cold), while Bryan Lasme made his return too. “He will give us another option in attack,” said a happy coach.
