Karel Geraerts: An energtic performance

Despite losing 3-2 to VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday (6/1) in a friendly, coach Karel Geraerts praised his side. “You can never be happy as a coach when you lose, but I’m really happy with the performance and the attitude on show,” he said. “It was an energetic performance.”

The Belgian was particularly pleased with the move for the first goal. “It was nice to see how determined all the players were, despite some tired legs after some long days of training. We put together some nice moves during the 90 minutes,” Geraerts explained.

The players are committed and doing their best in training.

“The players are working really hard in training, so it’s completely normal that they weren’t at their best during periods of a friendly. We lost the ball too easily at times and Wolfsburg took advantage of that,” said the head coach. “Ultimately though, the result isn’t the most important thing. We’re preparing for the second half of the season and the players are committed and doing their best in training.”

Geraerts will use the time before the first competitive game of 2024 – at home to HSV on 20th January at 20:30 CET – to fine tune a few things. “We’ve still got two weeks to go and we will use this time wisely.”
