Second-division champions meet as S04 head to Lustenau with captain Kenan Karaman

Schalke will look to keep up their match sharpness and put on an entertaining game for the travelling supporters when they face Austrian Bundesliga side Austria Lustenau in a friendly on Saturday (3/10, 15:00 CEST). The match will be played at the SUN MINIMEAL Arena, named after one of Schalke’s partners.

Head coach Miron Muslic will still be without nine players away on international duty for the meeting between last season’s second-tier champions in Germany and Austria. Kenan Karaman, Loris Karius, Hasan Kuruçay and Robin Gosens are all back in the squad, though, having missed the first friendly of the international break, a 5-2 win in Oberhausen.

Timo Becker (ankle injury) and Dejan Ljubičić (knee injury) will not make the trip to Austria. Five U23 players have also been added to the squad: Edion Gashi, Ayman Gulasi, Mika Khadr, Jean-Paul Ndiaye and Steve Noode.

Minutes for as many players as possible

As in Oberhausen, the aim in Lustenau will be to give as many players as possible some game time. The friendly will be particularly useful for the likes of Adrian Gantenbein and Bryan Lasme, who have both recently spent time out injured and will have another chance to get valuable minutes under their belts in a match situation.

Muslic himself has faced Austria Lustenau on several occasions before, including during his playing career. He even found the net against the Vorarlberg side on 1st April 2005, scoring the equaliser for SV Wörgl in a 2-1 win.
