AGM 2026: The most important takeaways

A total of 5,000 members, 4,902 of whom were entitled to vote, attended Saturday’s (18/7) annual general meeting at the VELTINS-Arena. schalke04.de has summarised the key information and decisions from the six-hour event.

Election of the supervisory board and election committee

As scheduled, two seats on the supervisory board were up for election. Axel Hefer and Holger Brauner, who had both already been part of the board, were elected.

Two positions on the election committee were also filled as part of the regular rotation. Members voted for Mitja Müller and Dr. Meinolf Weidenbach.

Votes on amendments to the statutes

Five proposed amendments to the statutes were put to a vote at the AGM. Three were approved and two failed to pass.

Reports from the chairman of the supervisory board and the board members

Chairman of the supervisory board Axel Hefer discussed, among other things, key areas of the board’s work, specific key figures and gave details about the strategic direction of the club.

CEO Matthias Tillmann outlined the achievements from the past year, the challenges faced in both sporting and financial areas, as well as the development of Berger Feld.

Frank Baumann reflected on last season, which saw both the men’s and women’s first-team squads win promotion. The 50-year-old also discussed upcoming challenges, changes and the need for continuity.

Christina Rühl-Hamers also spoke about both promotion-winning campaigns, as well as the burden posed by negative equity, the co-operative’s vital importance for the club’s future and the work being done in the area of human resources.

Elections/Appointments to the honorary board

Peter Lange, a former member of the supervisory board, has been elected to the honorary board.

Discharges

The agenda also included the formal discharge of the executive board and the supervisory board for the period of 1st July to 31st December 2025.

Schalke to transform Berger Feld into an open community space – new experience centre by the VELTINS-Arena to begin with

From training ground to vibrant meeting place: FC Schalke 04 is transforming Berger Feld into an open community space for supporters, local residents and visitors alike. The first visible step in this initiative is the start of construction work on a new experience centre located close to the VELTINS-Arena and Auf Schalke eG tower. At a site visit on Wednesday (24/6), FC Schalke 04 CEO Matthias Tillmann and Sebastian Buntkirchen, director of fan culture and responsible for brand and fan experience, presented the club’s strategic ‘Schalke Experience’ project as well as plans for the long-term development of the space.

Save the date: Schalke Day on 8th August featuring friendly against Atalanta

Excitement is building ahead of the new season, and one date is already set in the Royal Blues’ calendar. FC Schalke 04 will hold their traditional ‘Schalke Day’ season launch on Saturday, 8th August, followed by a friendly between the Bundesliga side and Serie A outfit Atalanta BC at the VELTINS-Arena.
