Omar Mascarell: We need to stick together more than ever

Omar Mascarell scored his first goal for FC Schalke 04 in yesterday’s 1-1 draw at SV Werder Bremen (30/1). The 27-year-old Spaniard wasn’t able to fully enjoy his maiden goal though, with the Royal Blues failing to hold on to their lead.

“On the one hand, I’m happy to score my first goal for such a big club. However, my main emotion after the game is disappointment because we only took a point,” summed up Mascarell, adding: “It’s just not enough in our situation.” Nevertheless, this disappointment won’t lead to the squad doubting themselves. “We need to stick together more than ever. We’ve got so many games left, so we just need to keep believing in ourselves.“

We need to stick together more than ever.

The next game for S04 is in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday night (3/2, 18:30 CET). Christian Gross’ side will face VfL Wolfsburg away from home in the round of 16, before hosting RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga three days later (6/2, 15:30 CET). The team’s aim for the Wolfsburg game is clear: “We are going there to win,” said Mascarell.
