Last-minute winner sees Taylan Bulut and Germany U19s through to semi-finals of EUROs

The Germany U19 national side produced a crucial late comeback against Norway in their final group game at the European Championship on Friday night (20/6). With Taylan Bulut starting again at right-back, Germany won 2-1 in Voluntari thanks to a late goal to book their place in the semi-finals.

After losing 3-0 to the Netherlands and then drawing 5-5 against England in their second game, Germany knew they had to win and that England had to fail to beat the Dutch. The ‘Three Lions’ lost 4-2 in the end, with their second goal only coming late on in injury time.

Germany found life difficult against Norway and were close to being knocked out. Hanno Balitsch’s side trailed 1-0 after Sondre Granaas’ goal in the 72nd minute. Bulut once again played the full 90 minutes in Romania.

Former Schalke player Assan Ouédraogo, now of RB Leipzig, came off the bench to fire in a spectacular equaliser with five minutes to go. Said El Mala, who will move to 1. FC Köln from Viktoria Köln this summer, then turned the game around with his winning goal in the first minute of added time.

Germany play Spain in the semi-finals on Monday (23/6) at 17:00 CEST.
