Ibrahima Cissé celebrates 6-0 win on Mali debut
The FC Schalke 04 pair of Ibrahima Cissé and Max Grüger were in international action on Tuesday (19/11), with both players on the winning side. Here is a summary of the two games.
Ibrahima Cisse made his debut for the Mali national football team. Schalke’s number 22 was substituted on in the 63rd minute in his nation’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Eswatini.
The home side won convincingly in Bamako, the capital of Mali. Three goals from Salzburg attacker Nene Dorgeles (17’, 23’, 77’) as well as goals from Stuttgart attacker El Bilal Toure (7’), Brest midfielder Kamory Doumbia (42’) and Watford attacker Mamadou Doumbia (89’) sealed a 6-0 victory.
Even before this game kicked off, Mali had already secured their place at the upcoming AFCON finals, which will take place in December 2025 and January 2026 in Morocco.
The Schalke defender had already made several appearances for Malis U23s before making his first-team debut. Cissé was also part of his nation’s squad at the 2024 Olympics.
Grüger subbed on in the second half
Max Grüger, who played the full 90 minutes in Germany U20s’ 4-0 defeat in England on Friday, was a second-half substitute in the side’s second fixture of the international break against Turkey.
The Schalke academy product came on in the 67th minute of Germany U20s 2-0 win, with both goals coming courtesy of Köln striker Damion Downs (45’, 61’).
