Grüger makes Germany U20 debut and Bulut on the winning side again with the U19s
Royal Blues Max Grüger and Taylan Bulut were both in action for Germany’s youth sides on Friday (15/11). Ibrahima Cissé however did not feature in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. schalke04.de rounds up the latest international matches.
Grüger in the starting eleven on debut
Max Grüger made his debut for the Germany U20 side in their away match against England. The midfielder was named in the starting line-up for the Under 20 Elite League encounter. The Gelsenkirchen-born man previously made nine appearances for his country’s U19 side.
His first appearance for the U20s ended in a 4-0 defeat. Millwall’s Romain Esse (31’), KAA Gent’s Max Dean (40’), Sheffield United’s Sydie Peck (56’) and Tottenham Hotspur’s Will Lankshear (73’) all found the net in Chesterfield.
Grüger’s side will next face Türkiye in the Under 20 Elite League on Tuesday (19/11). The match near Istanbul will kick off at 17:00 CET.
81 minutes for Bulut against Cyprus
Taylan Bulut was on the winning side with Germany U19 once again in their UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying match. After a 2-0 win over group hosts Andorra, Germany defeated Cyprus 3-1 with the Schalke defender in the starting eleven. He went on to play a total of 81 minutes.
Paris Brunner netted twice in Santa Coloma. The Cercle Brugge forward scored on 29 and 57 minutes. Barcelona’s Noah Darvich also converted a penalty seven minutes before half time. Constantinos Poursaitides of APOEL was also on target for Cyprus (72’).
Germany U19s will round off the first stage of qualifying against Hungary on Monday (18/11). Both teams have picked up the maximum of six points so far and already qualified for the next round.
Cissé on the bench for Mali
Ibrahima Cissé however did not feature. The centre-back was on the bench for Mali’s 1-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying victory away at Mozambique. Brest’s Kamory Doumbia scored the only goal in the 19th minute.
The win saw head coach Tom Saintfiet’s side book their place at the final tournament, which will take place in Morocco in December 2025 and January 2026.
On Tuesday (19/11), Mali will be back on home soil as they take on Eswatini in their final group match, which will kick off at 17:00 CET.
