Marcel Sabitzer opened the scoring for Austria in the 49th minute following a goalless first half, before Edin Dzeko equalised just seconds later (50’). Konrad Laimer’s 65th minute strike then made it 2-1. Towards the end of the game, Katic was shown a yellow card (86’).

The match was a face-off between the two teams in qualifying Group H that were yet to drop any points. After five games, Bosnia & Herzegovina sit at the top of the table on 12 points, with Austria level on points but having played one less game. Bosnia & Herzegovina play again on 9th October in Cyprus, with the hosts sat in second-to-last place on four points.
