Nikola Katic is continuing to work his way back from injury. The centre-back completed an extensive individual session with rehab coach Marc Thum at FC Schalke 04’s training ground on Thursday (30/4). “I’m working hard every day to get back out on the pitch as soon as possible,” commented the defender, who suffered a knee injury while playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina against Italy in World Cup qualifying on 31st March.

The dream of qualifying for this year’s World Cup is still very much alive for Edin Džeko and Nikola Katić. A 4-2 victory on penalties over Wales on Thursday (26/3) means that Bosnia and Herzegovina have booked their place in the qualification play-off final. The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Džeko playing a key role. The day before, Mika Wallentowitz celebrated making his debut for the Germany U19 side in a 2-2 draw with Sweden.

Nikola Katic found himself watching last weekend’s 1-0 home win against Arminia Bielefeld (6/3) from an unusual position – in the stands, instead of on the pitch. The centre-back was suspended after having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against SpVgg Greuther Fürth the previous week. “It wasn’t a nice feeling,” the 29-year-old said. “I was very nervous during the game, but very happy to get to celebrate with the others afterwards.”
