Euro qualifiers: Uronen wins comfortably with Finland, Karaman yet to feature

Following the end of the 2022/23 season, Jere Uronen, who is still with Schalke until 30th June, and Kenan Karaman went away with their respective national teams. The pair had reason to celebrate on Monday evening as both Finland and Turkey secured wins in the European Championship qualifiers.

Uronen featured from the start in Finland’s emphatic 6-0 win over San Marino in Group H. The left-back was substituted at half time with his side 2-0 up thanks to goals from Rangers’ Glen Kamara (16’) and KS Cracovia’s Benjamin Källman (39’). After the break, Daniel Hakans of Vålerenga scored a quick-fire hat-trick to make it 5-0 (65’, 72’, 74’), before former Schalker Teemu Pukki added a sixth. After four games, Finland sit top of Group H on nine points.

Turkey are top of Group D after also picking up nine points from their first four qualifiers. Stefan Kuntz’s men eased to a comfortable 2-0 win over Wales thanks to goals from Ümraniyespor’s Umut Nayir (72’) and Fenerbahçe’s Arda Güler (80’). Kenan Karaman didn’t feature.
