Michael Langer signs contract extension and takes on new role

Michael Langer will take on a new role at FC Schalke 04 as coordinator of sporting projects. The former goalkeeper will look after the club’s loan players, coordinate with international partner clubs, engage in goalkeeper scouting and work on further projects. He will report to Maximilian Lüftl, director of scouting and transfers. Langer ended his playing career in summer 2025 after eight seasons at Schalke.

“Michi Langer did an excellent job last year as a management trainee working alongside me. Among other things, he took on responsibility in the key area of partner clubs and helped drive these projects forward. Together, we have now developed a role that suits him,” explained board member for sport Frank Baumann.

“Michi Langer can bring his expertise and experience to this new role in the perfect manner. He successfully worked on a number of projects last year, and some new ones will be coming soon. I’m looking forward to working with him,” said Maximilian Lüftl.

Sidney Sam left his role at Schalke on 30th June.. The former S04 man was responsible for looking after Schalke’s players out on loan last season. During the 2024/25 campaign, he was part of the first-team staff as an assistant coach. Schalke 04 would like to thank Sidney Sam for his work and wish him all the best for the future.
