Christian Heidel: We’re a tight knit bunch

With four games played, Schalke find themselves last in the table and yet to pick up a point. Christian Heidel understands the criticism that has come with the disappointing start, but is still certain that the successes will come. The sporting director spoke about the “Franco di Santo incident”, a goosebump-inducing team meeting, the upcoming test against Freiburg and the Schalke fans whose support is more important than ever in times like these.

“We’re a positive-thinking team”

Schalke didn’t imagine that their season would start like this. The Royal Blues followed up last weekend’s loss against Wolfsburg with another defeat; this time at home to Hertha Berlin. The team are remaining optimistic however, and are convinced that things will start to look up soon. There’s no reason to panic.

However, the summer football drought made Saturday’s Bundesliga opener all the more nerve-wracking. The game against VfL Wolfsburg didn’t bring any points for Schalke, but it did bring up a lot of talking points.

Dreams become reality

“Runners-up, runners-up,” rang around the Schalke dressing room after the full-time whistle in Augsburg on Saturday afternoon.
