Anton Donkor signs for FC Schalke 04

Anton Donkor is Schalke’s first summer signing ahead of the 2024/25 season. The left-back has penned a contract until 2027 with the Royal Blues.

“Anton is a very assertive player who is strong in the tackle and can put his pace to good use at both ends of the pitch,” stated sporting director Marc Wilmots. “He has continually improved over the past few seasons and has firmly established himself in the 2. Bundesliga.”

Anton Donkor expressed his excitement ahead of the move. “I’m looking forward to playing for Schalke next season. The leadership team made a good impression and showed me their interesting plans for the years to come.”

Donkor was born in Göttingen and played for VfL Wolfsburg’s youth sides. He was loaned out to Everton U23s, before having spells at Hansa Rostock and Carl Zeiss Jena. Donkor changed position from attacker to left-back during his stint at Waldorf Mannheim, and his impressive performances in his new role earned him a move to Eintracht Braunschweig. The 26-year-old has made 67 competitive appearances over the course of two seasons for the 2. Bundesliga side. Donkor has also been capped eight times at youth level for Germany.
