Malick Thiaw signs professional contract until 2024

Malick Thiaw has signed a professional contract with the Royal Blues. The 18-year-old centre-back has also agreed to extend his contract until 2024.

Schalke sporting director Jochen Schneider said, „There’s no question about Malick’s potential, and he was able to make a few appearances in the Bundesliga this past season. Head coach David Wagner and his team will continue to oversee his development into a first-tier player.“

Schneider is also pleased that Thiaw, an internationally renowned talent, as decided to stay at Schalke. „Our aim is to keep talented players like Malick at the club and to oversee their development with care. Malick Thiaw joined the Royal Blues in 2015 from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The defender joined the first team at their winter training camp this past season, before making his Bundesliga debut against TSG Hoffenheim in the second half of the season. He has made four top-flight appearances to date. Thiaw has also made 20 appearances for the Royal Blues in the U19 Bundesliga West (8 goals).
