Zalazar with Uruguay U20s – Younes to undergo minor operation

Mauro Zalazar is currently not with the Schalke squad. The midfielder is with Uruguay U20s as they prepare for the 2025 South American U-20 Championship.

The tournament will be held in Venezuela from 23rd January to 16th February 2025. Uruguay are in a group with Paraguay (25/1), Venezuela (25/1), Argentina (29/1) and Peru (31/1). Depending on how the tournament goes for his side, Zalazar is expected to return to Gelsenkirchen in February.

Amin Younes is also missing from training. The midfielder will undergo a minor knee operation on Wednesday. Just like Younes and Zalazar, Peter Remmert (muscle strain) will also be unavailable for the final game of 2024 in Elversberg on Friday night.

Antwi-Adjei and Højlund complete parts of team training

FC Schalke 04 began preparations at the start of the new week for the home game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Friday (29/11). Christopher Antwi-Adjei and Emil Højlund, who had only been able to train individually recently, completed parts of team training.

Justin Heekeren’s contract now valid until 2026

After making his tenth appearance in the league this season, an automatic one-year extension clause in Justin Heekeren’s contract has been activated. The goalkeeper kept a second consecutive clean sheet last time out in the 2-0 win over SSV Jahn Regensburg.
