For all those reasons and more, yesterday’s derby victory felt doubly sweet. Firstly, because our Bundesliga survival became even likelier, but also because of how it will have soothed the souls of all the Schalke fans who have endured so much this season.

First a party on the team bus, then celebrations with the fans

“Derby winners, derby winners!” was the chant coming from the away dressing room even an hour after the full-time whistle on Saturday. In the midst of the celebrations was Daniel Caligiuri, who got himself on the scoresheet twice. When asked what plans he had for the evening, the 31 year old replied, “We’ll see. But for sure there will be two or three beers involved!”

Derby win! S04 come from behind to score four in Dortmund

FC Schalke 04 won the 154th Revierderby 4-2 on Satuday (27/4). After Mario Götze (14’) put the hosts ahead, Daniel Caligiuri (18’) and Salif Sané (28’) gave S04 a half-time lead. Caligiuri then added a second after the break (62’) before Breel Embolo sealed the win in the 86th victory. Axel Witsel had pulled one back (84’) for BVB, who ended the game with nine men.

Huub Stevens: Good periods in a game aren’t enough in a derby
