S04 to invite key workers to home games

“Thank you!” will be FC Schalke 04’s simple but important motto for the opening two home games of the season. After authorities in Gelsenkirchen granted permission for 300 spectators to attend competitive games at the VELTINS-Arena, similar to the pre-season friendlies at the Parkstadion, the Royal Blues are set to make a special gesture.

1. FC Schweinfurt and FC Schalke 04 have agreed to play the DFB-Pokal first-round tie at the VELTINS-Arena on Sunday (13/9, 15:30 CEST). The DFB have therefore granted Schweinfurt’s request to move the venue.

The DFB has today confirmed the timings for all 32 first-round matches in the DFB-Pokal. The Royal Blues will be in action on Sunday, 13th September, with kick-off set for 15:30 CEST. S04 will face off against the best-ranked side in the Bavarian Regionalliga, which will likely be 1. FC Schweinfurt 05.

Schalke to face Bavarian amateur team in the DFB-Pokal first round

FC Schalke 04 will face a team from Bavaria in the first competitive fixture of the 2020/21 season. The Royal Blues were drawn against the best Bavarian League team in the draw, made by DFB president Fritz Keller and DFB General Secreatary Heike Ullrich on Sunday (26th July).

The 2020/21 season will begin on 11th September with the first round of the DFB-Pokal taking place across four days. Schalke should find out their opponent for the season’s opening game on Sunday, 26th July (18:30 CEST).

His fourth competitive appearance for Schalke was the biggest one of his career so far for Timo Becker. The centre back, who usually plays for the club’s U23s, was part of the starting line up for the DFB-Pokal clash against Bayern München on Tuesday (3.3.). Becker delivered a strong performance against the defending champions before being subbed off in the 86th minute.

Ahead of the DFB-Pokal quarterfinal match against Bayern München, there was no doubt that Guido Burgstaller would make an appearance. “Guido has really thrown himself into training over the last few days,” was what head coach David Wagner had to say about Burgstaller during a press conference the day prior to the match.
