Henning Matriciani: We were able to gain some important insights

The first game of 2022 for the Royal Blues saw them come away with a 1-1 draw from a friendly against Dutch top-flight side Fortuna Sittard on Saturday (08/01). Schalke had several good chances, especially in the first half, Marvin Pieringer making the most of one to give the Royal Blues the lead five minutes before half time. For Henning Matriciani, the game was a successful test, all things considered.

Ahead of the second half of the season, FC Schalke 04 will have a friendly game against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday (08/01). The friendly will be presented by GAZPROM and sees the Royal Blues take on the Dutsch Eredivisie’s 17th-placed side. Kick off is 13:00 CET at the Parkstadion and the game will be structured in three 45-minute spells.

A good test with important lessons for the coaching team

A powerful Marius Bülter strike and a Mika Hanraths goal via his knee saw FC Schalke 04 win 2-0 at VfB Lübeck in a friendly on Thursday night (7/10). Head coach Dimitrios Grammozis was satisfied with the workout, with a number of players who haven’t featured much this season getting some much needed game time.

Schalke 04 came out on top over VfB Lübeck in their friendly during the international break. Marius Bülter and Mika Hanraths scored the goals in a 2-0 win at Stadion Lohmühle.

VfB Lübeck to host FC Schalke 04 in a friendly

Schalke will play a friendly once again during the next international break. On Thursday, 7th October, FC Schalke 04 will visit VfB Lübeck, where Rouven Schröder spent time as a player in 2010. They will host the Royal Blues at 18:00 CEST at the Stadion Lohmühle.

Schalke 04 defeated by KAS Eupen in practice game

The Royal Blues used the current international break to hold a practice game and faced off against Belgian second-tier side KAS Eupen. The match took place at Schalke’s training ground and some players from the Knappenschmeide featured in the game. The final result was 5-1 to the visiting side.

S04 put seven past SSVg Velbert in pre-season friendly

FC Schalke 04 faced SSVg Velbert in a friendly on Tuesday night (27/7), winning 7-0 against the fifth-division side. Marvin Pieringer scored a hat-trick, with Amine Harit (2), Kerim Calhanoglu and Can Bozdogan all getting on the scoresheet. The match was arranged on short notice and took place on one of the training grounds at the Ernst-Kuzorra-Weg. For organisational reasons, the match had to take place behind closed doors. Future friendlies will take place with spectators in attendance, as usual.

3-2 victory in final friendly

FC Schalke 04 won their final pre-season friendly 3-2 on Friday night against Vitesse Arnhem (16/7). Simon Terodde scored twice and Blendi Idrizi was also on the scoresheet in front of 1,000 fans at the Parkstadion. There was a minute’s silence before the game for the victims of the floods in Germany this week.

Goalless draw against Shakhtar Donetsk

The Royal Blues drew 0-0 with Shakhtar Donetsk in their fourth pre-season friendly. 650 fans watched the game in Mittersill, which saw Schalke keep up their record of not conceding a single goal so far in pre-season.

Dimitrios Grammozis: Good effort and intensity

After the 0-0 draw with Zenit St. Petersburg on Saturday (03/07), Dimitrios Grammozis took a largely positive view of the game against the Russian champions. The result was not the main concern for the Schalke head coach. Far more important was that the 42-year-old “saw a few things that we've worked on with the players in the days and weeks gone by. I'm pleased with the style and the way in which we presented ourselves.”
