Nassim Boujellab: I knew straight away it was going top corner

The Knappen won their last official preseason friendly on Saturday with a convincing performance against neighbours VfL Bochum. One day later, the team beat the U23s 4-1 in an internal friendly. Nassim Boujelab scored the first goal of the 3-0 win against Bochum – a delightful strike from the edge of the area.

The Royal Blues suffered their second pre-season defeat at the 'new' Parkstadion, falling 3-1 at the hands of KFC Uerdingen. Nearly 300 fans were in attendance for the match. Schalke's lone goal of the match was scored by Ahmed Kutucu.

The first match in the ‘new’ Parkstadion saw nine goals scored, as FC Schalke 04 were beaten 5-4 by SC Verl in a 120-minute friendly. Steven Skrzybski (2), Mark Uth and Benito Raman got the goals for the Royal Blues.

David Wagner: We’re particularly looking forward to seeing the fans

The Royal Blues have a special friendly match on Saturday (15th August, 18:30 CEST) in more ways than one. The game against SC Verl will be Schalke’s first game staged in the ‘new’ Parkstadion, which was designated the U23 and U19 sides’ official home ground at the end of July. Even better: the match against the newly promoted third-division side is the first time in more than five months that Schalke fans can support their team live at the ground.

The Royal Blues have confirmed another preseason friendly as part of preparations for the 2020/21 season. Schalke will face SC Verl on Saturday, 15th August. Verl finished the 2019/20 season by winning promotion to the 3. Liga, beating Lokomotive Leipzig in the promotion playoff at the end of June.
