Hamza Mendyl joins Dijon FCO on loan

Hamza Mendyl will leave FC Schalke 04 to join Dijon FCO on loan until 30th June 2020. The French side finished in 18th place in Ligue 1 last season. The left-back joined the Royal Blues in summer 2018 and signed a contract until 30th June 2023.

Pablo Insua remains on loan at SD Huesca

25-year-old Pablo Insua, who is under contract at FC Schalke 04 until 30 June 2021, will spend another season on loan at SD Huesca. Schalke have extended the loan deal by another year.

Africa Cup of Nations finalist Salif Sané returns to training

The final Royal Blue has returned to pre-season just days before the season opener in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Saturday away against SV Drochtersen/Assel (10/8, 15:30 CEST). Salif Sané, who reached the final of the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, finally rejoined the squad on Tuesday (6/8) – partly training with the team and partly on his own.

Alexander Nübel named new Royal Blues captain

On the final day of the pre-season training camp in the Austrian alpine town of Mittersill, Royal Blues head coach David Wagner announced FC Schalke 04’s new captain for the forthcoming 2019/20 season. The American head coach has appointed goalkeeper Alexander Nübel as club captain. The 22 year-old will be assisted by two vice-captains: Benjamin Stambouli and Omar Mascarell.

Rabbi Matondo and Jonas Carls to depart from Mittersill

Two players will leave training camp in Mittersill on Thursday (1st August). Rabbi Matondo picked up an injury over a week ago in a friendly against FC Twente. The Welshman has been unable to return to training due to a slow-healing wound on his foot.

Sebastian Rudy moves to TSG Hoffenheim on loan

Sebastian Rudy will leave Schalke 04 on a temporary basis to play for TSG Hoffenheim in the upcoming 2019/2020 season. The midfielder underwent a medical on Wednesday (31st July) before signing a loan contract effective until the end of the season. The 29 year old’s contract with Schalke runs until 30th June 2022.

Jonas Carls faces spell on the sidelines

Jonas Carls suffered a ligament injury and a bruised bone in his left foot against FC Bologna on Monday. This was confirmed by an MRT-scan undertaken in Mittersill on the day after the game. The 22-year-old will be unavailable to coach David Wagner for an unknown period of time.

Alessandro Schöpf: I look forward to every training session

Victory in Monday’s friendly against Bologna FC wasn’t the priority for Alessandro Schöpf. The midfielder is simply happy to have been out on the pitch again. “It was a good feeling,” said the 25-year-old, who returned to action after seven months on the sidelines against the Italian first-division side. As promised by coach David Wagner, he was substituted on halfway through the first half and played 23 minutes in total.

Schalke draw 1-1 in Enschede

FC Schalke 04 drew 1-1 with FC Twente in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night (23/7). Berkan Firat scored the Schalke goal in front of 19,000 fans in the Grolsch Veste, with over 2,000 away fans making the journey over the border.

Benjamin Stambouli: training is tough but that’s a good thing

A busy schedule is in store for the Royal Blues during the short training camp in Herzlake, with pressing, build-up play and intensive running on the programme as the team look to be in the best shape possible ahead of the new season. “Training is tough but that’s a positive,” said Stambouli. Intensive first session in perfect Herzlake conditions

On Tuesday (16/07), the Royal Blues completed their first session of the pre-season training camp in Emsland. The team will stay in Lower Saxony until 19th July and will look to continue laying the foundations for a successful upcoming season. Alexander Nübel has travelled with the team, with Suat Serdar set to join up on Thursday.
