Assan Ouédraogo ruled out of Elversberg game – will meet up with Germany U17s on Thursday

Midfielder Assan Ouédraogo will not be able to play against SV Elversberg (10/11) on Friday following scans carried out on Wednesday at the club (8/11). The MRI ruled out any structural damage. The youngster will now travel to meet up with Germany U17s on Thursday (9/11).

After the 17-year-old missed the last two away games at FC St. Pauli (DFB-Pokal) and 1. FC Nürnberg (league) due to a thigh problem, various tests were carried out after the team returned to Gelsenkirchen. Another MRI scan on Wednesday confirmed that there was no structural damage, as was the case last week. However, the teenager is still in some discomfort and has therefore ruled himself out of the game against Elversberg.

“Assan will be in the hands of the DFB from Thursday onwards so they can take a look themselves and work him back to full fitness slowly. He was successfully integrated gradually into the side during the U-17 European Championship a few months ago after a long-term injury, and we now once again expect the DFB to reintegrate him step-by-step, with a view to seeing if he can feature at the U-17 World Cup,” said sporting director André Hechelmann.

Germany’s group-stage opponents are Mexico (12/11, 19:00 CET, Bandung), New Zealand (15/11, 19:00 CET, Bandung) and Venezuela (18/11, 16:00, Jakarta). The FIFA international break period officially ends after the conclusion of the group stage, so a decision on if Ouédraogo remains with the U17s or returns to Gelsenkirchen will need to be made then.
