Germany reach the round of 16 at the U-17 World Cup – Ouédraogo forced off

Germany U17s booked their place in the knockouts of the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia on Wednesday (15/11) by defeating New Zealand 3-1 in their second group game. They also beat Mexico 3-1 in their opening fixture.

Assan Ouédraogo was named in Christian Wück’s starting XI in Bandung, but Schalke’s midfielder was forced off in the first half. He was caught on his ankle by New Zealand captain Marley Leuluai in the 38th minute and couldn’t continue.

Paris Brunner of Borussia Dortmund gave Germany the lead in injury time at the end of the first half. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s Max Moerstedt got the DFB’s second (60’), and HSV’s Bilal Yalcinkaya sealed the victory (81’), despite Adam Watson’s late penalty for New Zealand.

Germany’s final group game is against Venezuela on Saturday (18/11). The match will be played at 10:00 CET.
