Dreams become reality

“Runners-up, runners-up,” rang around the Schalke dressing room after the full-time whistle in Augsburg on Saturday afternoon. The players danced and, alongside mineral water and electrolyte drinks, beers were consumed. Pizza boxes and several bottles of champagne were in the corner – a further clue that something special took place. FC Schalke 04 are back in the Champions League.

Despite the loss in Munich, Schalke’s travelling fans cheered on the team from start to finish. “The fans saw our fight and respected that,” said Naldo. “Sadly, our efforts went unrewarded. We’d have liked to have got a positive result to make them happy.”
