Goalkeeper Loris Karius extends his contract at FC Schalke 04

Loris Karius has signed a new contract at FC Schalke 04, putting pen to paper on a new deal dated 30th June 2028. Karius was a key figure in Schalke winning promotion back to the Bundesliga, with the Royal Blues conceding a league-low 31 goals all season. Karius featured in 30 league matches in 2025/26, keeping 13 clean sheets in the process.

“With his consistent, strong performances, Loris was not only reliable, but also a key figure in our success. The team knows that they can depend on him. Additionally, he was often the difference-maker with crucial saves in close games, helping us to pick up important points,” said Youri Mulder, S04’s director of professional football.

“Last season proved what unity, energy and focus can help us achieve as a team. That is why I made the decision to extend my contract. I’m very much looking forward to the new season and to our return to the Bundesliga,” said Karius.

The 32-year-old joined the Royal Blues in January 2025, and has since featured in 35 competitive games for the club. A former Germany youth international, Karius has made 285 appearances across all competitions in professional football, including 95 Bundesliga games for 1. FSV Mainz 05 and 1. FC Union Berlin. His professional debut came in December 2012 for Mainz in the top flight. He featured in the 2018 Champions League final for Liverpool FC, playing all 13 games in the competition for the Reds that season.
