Schalke 04 returned to training on Wednesday morning (29/7), holding an open session at the club’s training ground in Gelsenkirchen as preparations continued following the training camp in Austria.

Adrian Gantenbein will initially be sidelined. He suffered an injury to his right ankle in last Saturday’s friendly against Japanese top-flight side Fagiano Okayama in Schwaz. Gantenbein is expected to be out for several weeks.

After joining Schalke during last week’s training camp in Stubaital, new signing Maximilian Wöber took part in his first training session in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday morning. The centre-back had begun with individual training in Austria after signing his contract last Wednesday.

Zaid Tchibara will train with the U23s from now on and is also expected to feature in matches for Jakob Fimpel’s team. The U23s begin their new season in the Regionalliga West this Saturday (1/8), when they host SC Paderborn 07 U23s at the Parkstadion.

Timo Becker and Johannes Siebeking both missed Wednesday’s training session through illness.
