“Mika made great strides in his development last season. He came through the Knappenschmiede youth academy as a very talented youngster and worked his way into the first-team squad. Regular football remains the most important thing for a young player. He will have to earn his opportunities through his performances. We will of course keep a close eye on his progress throughout the season,” said director of professional football Youri Mulder.

While still an U19 player, Wallentowitz made 13 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga during Schalke’s promotion-winning season. He most recently represented Germany U19s at the European Championship in Wales, where his nation finished as runners-up.
