Mika Wallentowitz signs long-term contract extension
Mika Wallentowitz has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with FC Schalke 04, keeping him at the club until 2030. The 18-year-old made his first-team debut earlier this season against SV Darmstadt 98 and has played 13 games in the 2. Bundesliga this term, setting up one goal.
“Mika’s development has been one of the best stories of the season. His intensity, pace and versatility are all important qualities for the way we want to play,” said Youri Mulder, director of professional football. “Mika is still a very young player and knows exactly where he needs to keep improving. We’ll keep working closely with him on those areas and decide together on the best path for his development.”
I want to keep working hard on myself, keep learning and get the very best out of myself.
“I’m really pleased with the trust the coaching staff, my teammates and the club have shown in me – both during my time in the Knappenschmiede and this season with the first team,” said Mika Wallentowitz. “I want to keep working hard on myself, keep learning and get the very best out of myself.”
As well as appearing for the first team, Wallentowitz also played 15 times for the U19s this season. He registered seven assists and one goal for head coach Norbert Elgert’s side. His strong performances also caught the eye of the DFB, with Wallentowitz making three appearances for Germany’s U19s this year.
