Five substitutions allowed until the end of the season

A virtual general meeting on Thursday (14/5) between the DFL and the 36 Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs saw a rule change annnounced: Teams are allowed to make five substitutions instead of three during a game until the end of this season.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) had recently approved the proposal, before the DFL discussed it with the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs. From now on, every club will be able to make five changes instead of three during a match.

The general meeting also decided that the 2019/20 season must be fully completed (including the relegation play-off), and the season can be extended past 30th June into July if required.
