After a run of eight matches in a row without defeat, FC Schalke 04 were beaten 3-0 at home by Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday (1/4). Their goals were scored by Jeremie Frimpong (50’), Florian Wirtz (61’) and Sardar Azmoun (90+1’).

Matriciani wins Bundesliga "Rookie of the Month" award

FC Schalke 04 defender Henning Matriciani has been voted as the Bundesliga’s “Rookie of the Month” for March. The 23-year-old beat Matthijs de Ligt of Bayern München and Dion Beljo of FC Augsburg to the award. The trio were nominated based on their strong performances in the last month.

Thomas Reis: Not easy, but not impossible either

The first of FC Schalke 04’s final nine games of the season following the international break is on Saturday at home to Bayer 04 Leverkusen (1/4, 15:30 CEST). The Royal Blues are hoping to continue their eight-game unbeaten run this weekend, but Thomas Reis acknowledged “that it won’t be easy, but not impossible either.”

Squad update at the start of the new week

Thomas Reis’ side trained on Monday (27/3) ahead of Saturday’s home game against Bayer Leverkusen. 19 players were involved in the session, the first of the week.

The DFL announced the dates and times for the remaining fixtures on Wednesday (22/3). As always, all games on matchday 34 will be played at the same time, 15:30 CEST on a Saturday.

Marius Bülter is a man in form

FC Schalke 04’s Marius Bülter has scored four goals in his last four games, including Sportschau’s Goal of the Month for February. The forward converted a penalty in the away game against FC Augsburg on Saturday (18/3), remaining calm in injury time to secure the Royal Blues a point.

Moritz Jenz: Showed great morale to earn a point

The Royal Blues are still unbeaten after eight games in the second half of the season, although the team weren’t fully satisfied with their performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at FC Augsburg (18/3). Marius Bülter was able to rescue a point from the spot for S04 in injury time, as Schalke were unable to take advantage of their opponents going a man down.
