After defeating Germany, Alessandro Schöpf and Guido Burgstaller were defeated by a fellow favourite for the World Cup. In their final international before the summer break, the two Schalke players were involved in Austria’s 3-0 loss to Brazil.

Amine Harit celebrates win in final pre-World Cup friendly

After Breel Embolo, Leon Goretzka and Marko Pjaca celebrated wins earlier, Amine Harit and Morocco are also heading to Russia on the back on a win after a 3-1 win over Estonia. In Talinn, the Schalke man played 47 minutes in Talinn.

Double delight for Amine Harit on Monday

It was a busy Monday for Amine Harit and Morocco. Just hours after announcing the final squad for the World Cup, of which the Royal Blue was a part, the team was taking on Slovakia in a pre-tournament friendly, allowing Harit to celebrate his inclusion in the team by playing 45 minutes in his country’s 2-1 win.

04 Royal Blues off to the World Cup!

Four Royal Blues will represent their countries at the FIFA World Cup in Russia this summer after the final squads for the tournament were revealed on Monday. Leon Goretzka (Germany), Breel Embolo (Switzerland), Amine Harit (Morocco) and Marko Pjaca (Crotia) will all look to make an impact for their nations in the competition which gets underway on 14 June.

Schöpf fires Austria to win over Germany

Things are certainly going well for Alessandro Schöpf in an Austrian shirt right now. After scoring the winner in last week’s 1-0 win over Russia, the Royal Blue was at it again on Saturday night as he struck the decider against world champions Germany to seal a 2-1 win for his country. Leon Goretzka was bought on for Joachim Löw’s Germany shortly after the break.

Alessandro Schöpf secures victory for Austria

Alessandro Schöpf was the hero for Austria in the friendly against World Cup hosts Russia on Wednesday (30.05.). The midfielder scored the game’s only goal with a penalty in the 28th minute to hand Austria, who failed to qualify for the tournament, a 1-0 win.

Weston McKennie shines in defensive midfield for USA

In only his second senior appearance for the US Men’s National Team, Weston McKennie put in another strong performance. The 19-year-old started in the friendly against Bolivia as the only holding midfielder and helped his country to a 3-0 victory. He was also one of only five players to play the full 90 minutes.

The Royal Blues’ pre-World Cup friendlies

The World Cup is fast approaching. To warm up and find their form ahead of the tournament, which gets underway on 14th June, the countries taking part have several friendly fixtures coming up. The final World Cup squads must be submitted to FIFA by 4th June. Leon Goretzka, Breel Embolo, Amine Harit, Matija Nastasic und Marko Pjaca are the current Schalke players to have been named in their respective countries’ preliminary World Cup squads.
