AGM 2024: The most important takeaways

4,735 members, 4,700 of whom were entitled to vote, took part in the club's annual general meeting at the VELTINS-Arena on Saturday (16/11). schalke04.de has summarised the most important information and decisions from the seven-hour event.

Election of the supervisory board and election committee

As per schedule, the election of two members for the supervisory board took place, with Sven Kirstein, who was already part of the board, and Ender Ulupinar being elected.

Two seats on the election committee were also elected. The members voted for Markus Peick and Astrid Erlebach.

Hall of fame

The Schalke members chose Erwin and Helmut Kremers to join the ‘Ehrenkabine’, the club’s hall of fame. The twin brothers, who were part of the 1972 cup winning side, have played a big role in the Knappen’s history, as Rolf Haselhorst, member of the supervisory board, explained in his speech.

Voting on amendments to the statutes and motions

At the general meeting, three proposed amendments to the statutes were put to a vote. All of them were rejected following a vote using green voting cards. There were also two motions on the agenda – one was approved by the members, the other was rejected.

Reports from the chairman of the supervisory board and the board members

Axel Hefer, chairman of the supervisory board, explained in his speech the reasons for the current situation and responded firmly to criticism of the staff and the club in general. He also discussed the registered cooperative society.

Matthias Tillmann also talked about the registered cooperative society, the sporting strategy and the current situation. The club’s CEO then discussed future plans as well.

Christina Rühl-Hamers gave an update on the club’s finances, going into detail about the most important numbers.

Discharges

The agenda also included discharges. The executive board and the supervisory board were discharged by the general meeting for the 2023 financial year and the short financial year 2024.

Schalke 04 break even and forecast profit

FC Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 e.V. have published the figures for the 2024 abbreviated fiscal year on Monday (28/10). Due to an amendment made at the Royal Blues’ annual general meeting last year, the club’s fiscal year will now run from 1st July to 30th June of the following calendar year. The figures presented relate to the period from 1st January 2024 until 30th June 2024, while the previous year’s figures cover the period from 1st January 2023 until 31st December 2023. As a result, only limited comparisons can be draw between the two periods.

S04 partner with Deutsche Krebshilfe for special edition shirt

What started in 1973 as a test run in Braunschweig soon became the norm in German football: shirt sponsors. FC Schalke 04 first ran out with a sponsor on the front of their shirts in the Bundesliga in the 1978/79 season. Günter Siebert, then president of the club, decided that the Royal Blues would promote a charitable cause in the form of the Deutsche Krebshilfe (German Cancer Aid).

Shaping the future of our club independently and positively – that is the goal of the Registered Cooperative Society at Schalke. During an extended, intensive process, the club's leadership engaged in strategic discussions on how the Royal Blues can proactively address the changing challenges within the world of football and make the club fit for our objectives. The result of this is the founding of the Registered Cooperative Society at Schalke. As part of the overall process, there was also an exchange with members of the Schalke family on these very questions.

Matthias Tillmann: We had clear criteria when searching for a new coach

In a selection process with several candidates, Kees van Wonderen ultimately came out on top when the club were looking for a new head coach. “There were several really good candidates when it came to their tactics and skills, but you ultimately need someone that will connect with the team and get them behind them and their ideas,” said Matthias Tillmann, who believes that the new head coach will do just that.
