Suat Serdar claims back-to-back Player of the Month awards

Having already won the vote for December’s Player of the Month before the recent winter break, Suat Serdar was able to retain the lion’s share of January’s vote (60 percent), beating Michael Gregoritsch (16 percent), Bastian Oczipka (15 percent) and Matija Nastasic (9 percent) to the award.

Of all the Schalke fans who voted for Serdar, a lucky Dirk Brans was drawn out of the hat. Dirk from Essen won two VIP tickets for the home game against RB Leipzig and had the honour of being the first person to congratulate Serdar on the award in the Hagedorn Lounge after the match.

„I’ve been impressed with Suat’s decision making this season: He has a great sense of when to shoot, when to pass and when to calm the game down,“ said Brans, giving his reasoning behind the vote. „You can see how confident he is and that really helps our game and the rest of the team!“

The 45-year-old added: „The game against Leipzig was sadly not a good one, but there is no topping everything else; the fantastic seats in the Arena and meeting Suat in person. The overall experience was once in a lifetime.“

The question now is who the fans will choose as their February Player of the Month. Voting begins at the start of March, with Schalke’s partner Hegedorn once again offering a special prize for one lucky fan among all those who voted for the winning player. February’s nominees will be revealed on schalke04.de in due course.
